Success Stories
CSE Graduates who go through a revolutionizing experience during their stay at the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering have taken the commitment for excellence and the pioneering spirit to all four corners of the world. They sure do have a lot to bring to the table...!
“The Computer Science & Engineering degree offered by CSE provides a very sound foundation for any computer engineer. Though most of the languages that we programmed during our undergraduate days are almost dead and gone, the concepts in programming that we learnt allow us to grasp any new programming language with ease. It is the same with the advanced computer architectures and networks that we deal with today. I believe that the continuing success of CSE in being the leader in events such as Google Summer of code and IEEE Extreme Coding is due to the continuation of this trend.”

“We enter the university as total aliens, with a highly abstract goal in mind – having tertiary education. However, towards the end of my 1st year I couldn’t help noticing this unique, catchy department in the university which I felt so attracted to. That is none other than CSE. From the day I stepped in to this ‘Center for Serious Education’ as some call it, each day that I lived in its highly cohesive culture, I felt that a new ‘me’ was being created. While getting the best dose of technical knowledge, the numerous extracurricular activities and the tremendous exposure has made me see the world as a smaller, more controllable place. I owe so much to this magnificent home away from home for the amazing life it has bestowed me. Viva le CSE! “

“Today, when I look over my shoulder in time, CSE stands out as the greatest thing ever happened to me to change my path of life. Undoubtedly, CSE is the best academic entity to pursue Computer Science and Engineering in Sri Lanka. In fact, it is true beyond the borders of Sri Lanka based on my experience as a graduate student in United States. Most notably, I see academic projects, the internship, and GSoC as key events to raise my level of exposure in to the industry and none of this would have been possible if not for the guidance and support of CSE.”

“The Dept. of CSE at UOM has an amazing atmosphere for all its stake holders: students, staff and alumina. At a time it is difficult to attract quality lecturers to state universities, CSE has thrived to provide the best of lecturers for all its programmes. I cherish the memories of my undergraduate studies and postgraduate studies at CSE. It provides an excellent education worthy of any career. The curricula of the MBA program was exciting and challenging at the same time. The tough selection criteria for this program assure the quality of the student intake which is another important aspect for successful discussions and group learning in a postgraduate course. I had no difficulty in convincing foreign university admission officers of the worthiness of the CSE degree, who eventually offered me a fully sponsored studentship for my higher education.”

After two years I was a major contributor in Apache open source projects, and after another year, I graduated as a professional who is well placed to compete with the best. I believe that transformation, which I know for a fact has undergone by many, itself would speak for the department. | “Students who are the first to learn how to make use of the abundant intellectual resources at the Department of CS &E benefit the most during their stay. Having come through the fiercely competitive Sri Lankan school education system most students seize the opportunity as soon as they join the industry oriented Department. In retrospect I realise that during my time at CS & E students albeit unwittingly played a key role in creating the vision for the Department. I believe these are the reasons behind CS & E graduates being standouts in the ever crowding IT graduate marketplace.” |

“As an undergraduate, I constantly wondered the reasons I had to study basic Electronics, Electrical units and Mathematics, apart from "COMPUTER ONLY" subjects. Two and a half years from CSE graduation, during my research career, the importance of a well-balanced engineering degree over a "Computer Science" course was self evident. Thank you CSE and Moratuwa Engineering faculty for preparing me to a world well-beyond undergrad....
