Rasika Amarasiri

Rasika Amarasiri obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Information Technology in Monash University. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Engineering (honours) and the Master of Science degrees from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Prior to his PhD, Rasika has held various positions in the industry and academia including being the Hostmaster for the .LK domain registry, web master, systems administrator, consultant and lecturer. He has had numerous publications accepted in journals and conferences including a best paper award. Currently, he is the Manager, Research IT Services at the department of Accounting and Finance in Monash University, Australia.

Nimantha Baranasuriya

Nimantha is currently employed at Eurocenter DDC as a Software Engineer. He holds a first class Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree specializing Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Moratuwa and is the top of his batch. He achieved the Microsoft Certified Professional certification in 2007 and successfully completed his project in Google Summer of Code 2008 Programme. He won the Virtusa award and the Daham Anuradha Memorial Award during his stay at the university. Nimantha is sports lover and he was a member of the University of Moratuwa Tennis team and represents the Panadura Recreation Club Tennis team of Sri Lanka

Aravinda Dassanayake

I obtained a First Class in Computer Science & Engineering from the Dept of Computer Science & Engineering, UoM, and currently work as an Engineer – Technology at Virtusa Pvt Ltd. Apart from my professional career, I also serve as the Secretary of the Computer Science & Engineering Society. During the university career I held positions of Vice President and Director – Club Services in the Rotaract Club and also Vice President – Public Relations in the Gavel Club which is an affiliate to Toastmasters International. Having a passion to write, I was also a freelance journalist attached to the state English newspaper during the University career.  Having being awarded the Rotaract Spirit of Service Award in university, the top highlights during my school life were being elected as the Head prefect and being awarded the Gold Medal for the Best All Rounder in 2003.

Jaliya Ekanayake

Jaliya Ekanayake is a Ph.D. candidate at the School of Informatics and Computing of Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. His research advisor is Prof. Geoffrey Fox and in his Ph.D. research Jaliya focuses on architecture and performance of runtime environments for data intensive scalable computing.

“Today, when I look over my shoulder in time, CSE stands out as the greatest thing ever happened to me to change my path of life. Undoubtedly, CSE is the best academic entity to pursue Computer Science and Engineering in Sri Lanka. In fact, it is true beyond the borders of Sri Lanka based on my experience as a graduate student in United States. Most notably, I see academic projects, the internship, and GSoC as key events to raise my level of exposure in to the industry and none of this would have been possible if not for the guidance and support of CSE.”

Saliya Ekanayake

I am a Graduate Student of the Department of Computer Science in Indiana University, United States. I work as a Research Assistant under Prof. Geoffrey Fox. I received my bachelor's degree for Computer Science & Engineering in 2008, from University of Moratuwa. I worked as a Software Engineer in WSO2 Inc. in 2008-2009. I am also a committer in Apache Software Foundation

Sumith Gamage

Sumith Gamage obtained his B.Sc. (Moratuwa) and M.Sc. (Moratuwa) from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He is presently a Project Manager, WaveNET International (Pvt) Ltd and also a Visiting Lecturer for CSE. Was a former president, CS&ES.

Thilina Gunarathne

Thilina Gunarathne graduated in 2006 with a BSc (eng) first class honors from the best academic department in the island. He is currently a 3rd year PhD student in Indiana University, Bloomington focusing his research on distributed and parallel computing .

"When I entered UoM as an Engineering undergraduate all I wanted was to become an expert in computer software and software engineering technologies. Today, having successfully completed my bachelor's degree, I can say with full confidence that, at CSE I got more than I ever expected. The department of CSE not only provided me with the best learning environment imaginable but also granted me with many opportunities to build up my communication, leadership and people skills. In addition to the boost of technical and analytical skills, at CSE, I found a lot of loving, caring friends. Hiranya Jayathilaka

Hiranya is a graduate of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Moratuwa. He has taken part in Google Summer of Code 2008 and 2009. He joined WSO2 as a Software Engineer in April 2009. He is the author of the Financial Information Exchange (FIX) transport for Apache Synapse and WSO2 ESB and is a regular contributor for open source projects like Apache Derby and Apache Web Services

Priyantha P Kumara

Graduated in 1995  from CSE and obtained his MSc in CS also from the same dept. Currently work as a Senior Manager, Network Operations for Wightman Telecom, ON Canada.  Wightman Telecom is one of the oldest independent Telecoms in Ontario Canada.

“The Dept. of CSE at UOM has an amazing atmosphere for all its stake holders: students, staff and alumina. At a time it is difficult to attract quality lecturers to state universities, CSE has thrived to provide the best of lecturers for all its programmes. I cherish the memories of my undergraduate studies and postgraduate studies at CSE. It provides an excellent education worthy of any career. The curricula of the MBA program was exciting and challenging at the same time. The tough selection criteria for this program assure the quality of the student intake which is another important aspect for successful discussions and group learning in a postgraduate course. Tharindu Liyanagunawardena

Tharindu Liyanagunawardena obtained a 1st class in BSc Computer Science and Engineering and a MBA in Information Technology from the University of Moratuwa. Prior to joining CSE team for a short period, Tharindu was a Senior Software Engineer at Millennium IT, where she holds over 4 years of software development and design experience. She is currently reading for her PhD at the School of Systems Engineering, University of Reading, UK.

Sumith Matharage

Sumith Matharage graduated from University of Moratuwa obtaining the TP De S Munasinghe Gold medal. Presently he is reading for his PhD in Monash University, Australia

Crishantha Nanayakkara

Crishantha Nanayakkara is currently working as a Senior Technologist at ICTA-Sri Lanka. He has nearly 14 years of professional experience in the area of enterprise software design and development. Prior joining ICTA, he worked at Virtusa, Mobile Media and iOM Sri Lanka in different capacities. He is a past student of the CSE MBA/IT programme

“The education I received as an undergraduate in CSE, really paved the path for my higher studies. The variety, breadth and depth of the subjects offered are really useful for me as a research higher degree student. In my studies, it is a must to have a strong theoretical knowledge while knowing how to put those theories in to practice in real world scenarios. Tharindu Patikirikorala

Tharindu Patikirikorala is presently a PhD Candidate at Swinburne University of Technology (Australia). During 2007-2009, I worked as a senior Software Engineer at MUBSHER Development center (Sri Lanaka). Currently I am a PhD student at Swinburne University of Technology, working on Autonomic software systems. My research interests are Autonomic Computing, Self-Adaptive systems/architectures and Adaptable services.

Indika Perera

Indika has earned BSc. Eng. (Hons), MSc degrees from the Dept. of CSE and a Masters of Business Studies from the University of Colombo. After working in the industry on various capacities, Indika joined the CSE as a lecturer. He is presently reading for his PhD School of Computer Science, University of St.Andrews.

“Almost seven years ago, I joined the department as a student who did not have a Computer Science background at all. After two years I was a major contributor in Apache open source projects, and after another year, I graduated as a professional who is well placed to compete with the best. I believe that transformation, which I know for a fact has undergone by many, itself would speak for the department. Furthermore, I would like to use this opportunity to remind those teachers, whom were the catalyst of that transformation by teaching, guiding, and challenging us to bring out the very best of each of us.

Srinath Perera

Srinath Perera received his Bachelor from University of Moratuwa and his Master's and his Ph.D. from Indiana University,USA. He is a member of Apache Software foundation, PMC member of Apache Web Service project, committer of Apache Axis, Axis2, and Geronimo, and a co-founder of Apache Axis2. Presently he works as an Architect at WSO2 and also serves as a visiting lecturer at University of Moratuwa

Oshani Seneviratne

Oshani Seneviratne graduated in 2007 from CSE. She is a currently a PhD candidate at MIT researching on problems related to Semantic Search and Content Reuse on the Web. She is advised by Tim Berners-Lee at the Decentralized Information Group of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT.

Nilendra Weerasinghe

Nilendra Weerasinghe  is a Computer Science and Engineering Graduate with qualifications in CIMA and currently reading for the CFA charter.  Having started my career as a Business Analyst at a global IT services company, I am now engaged in Corporate Advisory at a pioneering Investment Bank in Sri Lanka
